Facebook to test the idea of "six degrees of separation".

Harvard sociologist Stanley Milgram in the late 60s conducted the experiment that led to what's become known as the 'six degrees of separation' theory which postulates that everyone is on average approximately six steps away from any other person on Earth. In other words, a "friend of a friend" iterated six times will connect us all.

Now, Yahoo and Facebook have teamed up for what they call the Small World Experiment, designed to test the hypothesis that anyone in the world can get a message to anyone else in just six stages, by passing it from friend to friend.

TG Daily has the story.
